Overload!
Overload is a national training camp for Junior Canoe Polo players from around Ireland. For the 7th year running, Mullingar Harbour will host young players aged 9 and over on August 31st – September 1st for a weekend of skill development, meeting new friends and having fun.
Overload is now the biggest junior event in the Irish Canoeing calendar. In 2023, Overload was awarded Canoeing Irelands EVENT OF THE YEAR award.
Non-Stop Canoe Polo
Get ready for a full weekend of learning new skills, meeting friends from other clubs and enjoying some new ways to play polo. Last year we had activities ranging from games, drills, some exciting (inflatable) flamingos vs Unicorns matches, and some flood-lit night polo for more experienced players
Overload is an inclusive event allowing young players from across the Irish clubs to come together and enjoy the sport at their own pace whether that’s practicing new skills, learning to work with new team members, or learning to paddle a floating Unicorn !
There will be a ‘Rules of Canoe polo’ session for parents to learn more about the game and understand what all the fun is about.
The Location - Mullingar Harbour
Overload takes place at the Royal Canal Harbour in Mullingar – its a beautiful site with plenty of space on and off the water. The harbour is home to Mullingar Harbour Canoe Polo, a junior club with 100 members.
Camping space is available onsite from 4pm Saturday and is free of charge, but you must request it when registering. If your children are camping, then you, or a designated guardian, or supervisor will be responsible for them.
All car parking will be in the adjacent carpark at Loreto College.
How do I take part
Registration includes a 2024 Overload Hoodie, Barbecue on Saturday, Lunch on Sunday, and a load of fun memories. Registration Opens on 27th July

Sponsors – this will be the biggest development activity for Irish Junior Canoe Polo players in 2024. In 2023, Overload was awarded Canoeing Irelands EVENT OF THE YEAR award. Overload has quickly become a flagship Canoeing event with players, volunteers and parents from all around Ireland taking part. Last year we had 140 Junior Canoe Polo players, 40 Volunteers and 70 parents take part in the event.

Parents Sessions – Game Basics, Rules & Tactics Sessions in Marquee – €500
We need a sponsor to cover our education sessions for Parents – We will run sessions on both days covering the basics of Canoe Polo, Attack and Defence tactics and Introduction to Refereeing. These sessions are always well attended by parents.
